Bedfordshire-born and bred, I moved to London in 1987 and somehow fell into a career in corporate banking. In late 2005 I seized the chance to escape and since then have devoted myself to studying and developing my own artistic practice. I now divide my time between field trips across Britain (with a particular focus on Cornwall) and my studio in Central London, where I am currently working on a number of projects combining my interest in somatic movement and dance with the energies held within the landscape. My studio is part of Make Space, a community of artists, artisans and creative businesses (www.makespacestudios.com)

A lifelong fascination with energy and motion forms the basis of all my work. The brushstrokes are strong and physical, the paint scratched on with a palette knife or thinned to near translucency to expose the layers of activity beneath. The raw power of the sea; the tension of muscles; a blast of wind-whipped rain; the twist of the spine as the body reaches skyward - every one is unique and my desire is to capture their essence within the painting itself. I study a form of Daoist Life Drawing, where the emphasis is on the balance of mark vs line, light vs soft, and co-created a video installation based on the embodiment of this concept in the spiralling movement of the body, which was shown at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2022.
